Globalization: The Key Concepts, 2nd edition, 2014

... Disembedding, acceleration, standardization, connections, mobility, mixing, globalized risk: lt is easy to conjure up a vision of the world as being in constant flux. ln this book, I have argued against simplistic versions of this view and even if one is fascinated by the idea of a world in continuous movement, one has to keep in mind that different social and cultural fields are moving at different speeds and even in different directions. ...

Overheating: The world since 1991
Thomas Hylland Eriksen

History and Anthropology, 2016

This special issue of History and Anthropology, which includes articles on Sierra Leone, Peru, Estonia, Hungary, Norway, the Philippines, Britain and Melanesia, presents some of the salient features of the accelerated post-1991 world. We emphasize the importance of comparison for theoretical development in anthropology and the relevance of contemporary history for anthropological research on globalization. We also demonstrate the importance of taking ethnography seriously in research on globalization. This article outlines the origins and central features of the post-Cold War world, showing the significance of shifting between global, transnational, national and local perspectives in order to understand the processes of change affecting communities in all parts of the world. This article also introduces the overheating approach to globalization [Eriksen, Thomas Hylland. 2016. Overheating: An Anthropology of Accelerated Change. London: Pluto], indicating ways in which new forms of connectedness and acceleration can shed new light on phenomena such as neo- liberalism, identity politics and climate change.

CRISES OF HUMANITY IN THE GLOBAL ECONOMY (ALL OF US ARE AT RISK IN THE WORLD AROUND US
IASET US

There are many crises of humanity like food 2 , debt 3 , economic 4 recession 5 , war, refugee & migration, displacement, underdevelopment, climate change, natural & unnatural disasters, arising out of growing transnational crime, house 6 , those living in conflict and in chronic poverty 7 , most vulnerable, growing transnational crime, inequality 8 , global fiscal policies that negatively impact other economics, nuclear trafficking & terrorism, human rights violations, policy crisis 9 , Marx's theory of economic crisis-its causes & impacts 10. Expanding lists at risk is infinite. In crises, thousands have been died and others' are suffering. Building on the earlier works on humanity & globalization, this study discusses the nature of the global economy, the rise of a globalized production and financial system, a transnational capitalist class, and a transnational state and warns of the rise of a global police state to contain the explosive contradictions of a global capitalist system that is crisis-ridden and out of control 11 by giving rise to all kinds crises ofàrtificial intelligent weapons (AI) 12 , climate change, financial market volatility, increasing inequality, chronic poverty 13 , global slavery 14 , trafficking & terrorist, defining vulnerability, and some more to add to the urgency of seeking connections between crises of humanity and the global economy. As a result of more warring parties are brazenly violating international standard to recognise others as the common humanity and the suffering people are not " others " ; they are as diverse as the human family itself; the developing countries pay the highest price in a global economy. These reasons and more, this study surveys some of the factors under study and conclude with an exploration of how diverse social, economic & political forces are responding to the crisis of humanity and alternative scenarios for the future.

The systemic challenge of global heating
Franz Baumann

International Politics Reviews, 2018

| Global heating is happening. The opportunity to prevent it has been missed. Originating in the Industrial Revolution, the ever greater use of fossil fuels impacts the entire world – especially future generations, who contribute nothing to the problem and who have no say today. The near-universal consensus is that the accumulation in the atmosphere of greenhouse gases heats the Earth's climate, that an increase above 2 °C imperils the basis of human life, and that one beyond 3 °C threatens its destruction. Global heating is the flipside of the phenomenal economic and demographic development of the past half century. Ever more people are enjoying, or pursuing, ever more comfortable and mobile lifestyles, the cumulative effect is to push the Earth beyond its carrying capacity. Recognizing these dangers, the 2015 Paris Agreement was a major achievement – but not good enough, because chances are slim that it will be realized and, even if it were, it would not suffice. Global heating is beyond individual or national remedial action. Organizing decarbonization at the proper scale and speed is the formidable global public policy challenge on which the survival of the human species depends. Can governments deliver? And what, if they can't? International Politics Reviews (2018). https://doi.

2018

Thomas Hylland Eriksen's book is an "outline and an overview" of an anthropology of accelerated change. Through analysing the various runaway processes that underlie crises of globalisation he defines the current interconnected world as a system of clashing scales that needs to be approached anthropologically through adding fresh and more encompassing methods.

The Environmental Risks of Incomplete Globalisation
Rasmus Karlsson

Globalizations, 2017

As the liberal optimism of the long 1990s has faded into a world of growing inequality and resurging nationalism, there is less certainty about the prospects of economic convergence and global integration. Beyond the formidable human cost of maintaining a divided world, the possibility of incomplete globalisation also gives rise to a number of environmental risks. While environmental political theory generally sees strength in localism, history rather shows that a robust world trade system is crucial to offset local resource scarcities and that cosmopolitan norms of solidarity are essential for helping communities to rebuild after environmental catastrophe. In relation to climate change, statist thinking has led to a focus on non-scalable technologies and a silent acceptance of chronic poverty abroad as a way of avoiding a climate emergency. Contrary to such views, this paper argues that accelerating the transition to a fully integrated high-energy planet may more effectively mitigate Anthropocene risks.
