What a telling table! In the countries of 'new' capitalism - typically, Russia and China - the majority of capitalists are first-generation.
In Russia, they are mostly former cadres, intellectuals or criminals who stole something from the former Soviet assets or used somebody's administrative capital to enrich themselves.
In China, it is mostly typical state-bureaucratic capitalism - a combination of entrepreneurial talent with somebody's protection.
By contrast, South Korea's rich are mostly 3rd-4th generation already.
Division of the spoils after Japanese colonialism was over by 1950,
and bureaucratic protection mattered most until the late 1980s.
For now, the wealthy class is a force in itself - unlike China or Russia where bureaucrats bully capitalists mercilessly, if needed.
But it also means that, in 2-3 generations, China and Russia may look a bit more like South Korea today...

I am surprised to see a huge difference in the share of the inherited capital between Japan (30%) and Korea (58%).

Surprised that Canada is so high in the self made category. I have doubts and questions about the methodology. Is it "wealthy" individuals, or percentage of dollars controlled by the wealthy. If the latter, then Elon Musk would count as mostly selfmade, even though he was born rich.
