From the viewpoint of hegemony studies, THIS is a way more important than the question of whether China ever takes Taiwan and how it happens (if it happens). American/Western hegemony has been steeped in the assertion of West's monopolistic authority in the matters of producing advanced scientific knowledge. But, with China gradually moving to outplay USA in the scientific field, this assumption may no longer make sense in, say, 10-15 years from now. At which point, no amount of bullying against the likes of Huawei will help. It is a tectonic shift. And it is inescapable in the long run, given China's fundamentals or historical position.
